🙋‍♂️Frequently Asked Questions

A. Because this site is created by someone who truly understands what you need to know.
The author
has spent years inside transplant OT and ICUs. She has seen what patients and caregivers go through — before, during, and long after the surgery. This website is filled with those insights, honest answers, and practical help for people like you.

A. Because these resources are built to help you live better.
They’re not random Google information. They’re short, focused, and thoughtfully created for individuals navigating life after a liver transplant. Everything is written from lived experience. You’ll find more practical value here than from hours of scrolling on random websites.

A. Because ignoring important information doesn’t protect you — awareness does.

You’ve already been through a challenging journey. It’s only natural to want a break, to switch off and escape into something light, like Netflix.
But here’s something worth thinking about:

“Your eyes can only see what your mind knows.”

Post-transplant complications often appear quietly, without clear warning signs. And if you don’t know what to look for, you might miss that early window when intervention can make all the difference.

These eBooks and blogs are not heavy reads. They’re brief, clear, and designed specifically for patients and caregivers like you — to guide you gently, not overwhelm you.

Because staying informed today could mean avoiding a crisis tomorrow.

A. Liver transplants today have a high success rate — typically over 85–90% in the first year at most leading centres.
This is made possible by advancements in surgical techniques, anaesthesia, and improved post-operative critical care protocols.

A. Yes, many liver transplant recipients live 10, 20, even 30+ years after surgery. Lifespan depends on post-transplant care, adherence to medication, and regular monitoring — all of which are pillars of the Liver Transplant Care and Support System.

A. There’s no “ideal” age — children, young adults, and seniors (up to 60 years of age) have all had successful transplants. What matters most is overall health.

Most of the time, we try to keep the age limit for liver transplants up to 60 years.
Transplants may be considered in patients over 70, but only if they are in excellent overall health.

We avoid putting a healthy donor at risk if the recipient’s chances of meaningful recovery are low.
Even though donor surgery is much safer now, a transplant should only be done when it’s truly justified.
That’s why we carefully assess each case, especially in older patients, before moving forward.

In practice, every transplant decision involves ethics and responsibility, because it’s not just about one person — it involves two lives in the case of a living donor, and a precious, limited organ in the case of a deceased donor.

When it comes to deceased donor transplants, the organ must be used wisely. If a 60+ patient has multiple comorbidities and poor recovery potential, we do not proceed because:

  • That organ could save someone else with a better prognosis
  • The goal is not just to transplant an organ, but to give a meaningful quality of life

Priority is always given based on:

  • Overall fitness
  • Chances of long-term survival
  • Urgency
  • And the ethical use of a scarce organ

A. Liver transplants may fail in 10–15% of cases, mostly due to rejection, infection, or recurrence of disease. Early detection and follow-up under proper liver transplant care and support by your transplant team can prevent or manage these complications.

A. Yes, living liver donation is possible and safe. A portion of the donor’s liver is removed and regenerates over time.
